CPsychol, PhD, AFBPsS, HCPC Registered Health Psychologist.

About my work as a practicing psychologist

What I offer

I offer Health Psychology support that brings together the science on how to help people change challenging health behaviours (such as smoking, alcohol, diet, activity or sleep); and at the same time draws on evidenced therapeutic approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and other person-centred talking therapies. I specialise in supporting people with weight management, living with obesity, and changing weight-related behaviours, but also accept referrals on a range of health topics concerning health behaviour change and living with illness.

My approach

I will take into account biological, psychological, social and environmental factors that impact you and your health. I support people to make any change in their lives which will benefit their health and wellbeing and do this in a holistic and integrated manner which means I will draw from a number of evidence-based approaches to deliver bespoke treatment depending on what is most important and relevant to you.

My clinical experience

I’m a qualified Health Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council that has worked in NHS, academic and private practice settings. I have worked with people living with a range of long-term conditions including but not limited to obesity, psoriasis, cancer, kidney disease, and multiple sclerosis.

Lecturing

I am currently a university lecturer teaching and supervising undergraduate, post-graduate and PhD students on subjects like obesity management, dr-patient communication, and long-term conditions management

I train health professionals in holding challenging behaviour change conversations with patients and have developed a science-based framework on this called the 'Tent Pegs' communication toolkit.

I conduct and publish scientific research including on obesity, long-term health conditions and health professional communication.
